The Why
Why do you wish to transform your life?
This is the initial question you must be able to answer, as it establishes the foundation for your desired direction.
This needs to be the starting point because if the why is not strong and solid enough, it will be difficult to maintain momentum when the going gets tough. In his book Think and Grow Rich, Napoleon Hill speaks of unwavering desire. This unwavering desire is the first step towards developing the mindset to achieve transformation.
““Unwavering desire is a regular desire taken a step further. When you harness the power of unwavering desire, you can overcome any obstacle that comes your way”.”
Each of us has our own reasons or desires for wanting to transform our lives. For me, it is quite simply this: after the passing of my father in February of this year, I realised that I did not want to live with regret for a life not fully lived. “Transformation in Motion” took on a whole new meaning, and well, here we are.
The reason doesn't need to be specific; that will come later, and I promise we will get there. However, your reason should fill you with passionate desire and nerve-shattering excitement. Think broadly and create a simple statement that you can use as a mantra. Repeat this mantra to yourself daily and as often as necessary.
At one time, my reason was, “I am so tired of this old me," and thus began my journey into the realm of coaching and positive psychology. The reason for my body transformation is, “I want to rock middle age” ... more about that later.
Your reason for change requires reflection, so I recommend you take some time to compile a list of all the reasons you wish to pursue a journey of transformation. Then, identify recurring themes and distil them into a simple statement or mantra. You might have several; I certainly do for the various aspects of my life that I am transforming. Examples for different realms might include your relationships, finances, and health.
“ “You and I possess within ourselves at every moment of our lives, under all circumstances, the power to transform the quality of our lives.””
Have fun with this exercise because you are worth it!
